Is President Trump right to pursue his $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC?
A federal judge on Thursday ordered President Trump to testify by December 11 in his $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC over a documentary that edited his January 6, 2021 speech, or risk the case being dismissed.
I'm a strong free press advocate, but I admit the BBC editing was a major mistake. Trump has a legitimate case here, I think. That said, a $10B ask feels a bit like a shakedown.
Can't say that's not how he rolls...nor that I'd be unlikely to do the same in his position. As I was saying just yesterday, financial punishments don't change behavior unless they're big/precise enough to make decision-makers terrified for their own futures.
Agree big numbers do more for deterrence, but they still need to be proportional.
If you're voting "yes, he's right to sue," what's your number where a lawsuit like this stops being about accountability and starts looking like punishment for coverage he didn't like?
