Should employers be required to give workers paid time off to vote on Election Day?

Some U.S. states mandate paid or unpaid voting leave, but there is no nationwide standard requiring employers to give workers time off to vote.

There are options to vote without taking time off work. Those who want to vote can. That's not something employers need to subsidize.

Depends on the employer; I can sympathize with strapped small businesses, but big ones are another matter entirely. Let the former apply for exemptions if it's so rough.

Let people vote by mail if they can't or don't want to take off work. If we start paying for time away to vote it becomes one more opportunity for abuse and an unnecessary burden on business owners (which is ultimately paid for by customers).

If you say "no," does that hold up for hourly workers with no flexibility, or just salaried folks who can slip out anyway?
