Are open-plan offices good for work?

Open floor plans too often go too far. They're great for collaborating but terrible for sustained concentration. Companies need a thoughtful mix of spaces for teamwork, individual focus, and everything in between. The right answer depends a lot on the work and company culture.

There is no "correct" answer to this question. It depends entirely on the work.

The way people talk about "The Workplace™" as though they're all the same is irritating at minimum, and even downright creepy.

To say nothing of self-defeating. But you know American businessmen usually like to do whatever the consultants say so this year it's open floor plans, next year it will be team calisthenics. But at least there aren't mandated testosterone injections like the military. Jesus, you can't make this shit up.
