Should former members of the U.S. Congress be permanently banned from becoming paid lobbyists?
I'm in favor of a 5-year ban to reduce the likelihood that members of Congress will be suborned by offers of lucrative employment from parties seeking political favors.
Should the U.S. lower the federal voting age from 18 to 16?
It would be better to raise it back to 21. My own political notions at age 16 were ill-considered and essentially pernicious, and I have no reason to suppose that most of those currently at that age are any wiser than I was.
They can work, but most of them are not self-supporting. 12 year-olds can also work for pay; would you extend the franchise to them too? The current voter base includes far too many fools and ignoramuses; lowering the voting age would exacerbate that problem.
Should the U.S. federal government cap how much landlords can raise rent each year?
Though I'm no economic expert I have been firmly convinced by the arguments against government price control from the likes of Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, and Frederick Bastiat, which are also deducible from Adam Smith's exposition of "the invisible hand" metaphor.
Five years.
