Was President Trump right to defend the U.S. strikes on Iran at the U.N.?
At the U.N. General Assembly this week, President Trump is defending his decision to order U.S. military strikes on Iran, a day after a U.N. fact-finding mission said the U.S. was 'likely responsible' for war crimes in two strikes in February.
Trump would like you to forget that he pulled out of the JCPOA during his first term. That agreement limited Iranian nuclear activities and Iran was in compliance before Trump blew it up. JCPOA was not perfect but it offered a framework for moving forward. But that sort of diplomacy is hard work and requires an understanding of the national interests of all the parties concerned. Much easier to just blow stuff up. FAFO.
As often as not, it's the *way* he says things. Threatening to "annihilate" Iran is not a path to either resolution with Iran or building a strong coalition.
