Should local communities be able to block new AI data centers from being built nearby?
As tech companies race to build AI data centers across the U.S., a growing number of local communities are pushing back over the projects' heavy electricity and water demands.
It's up to the data centers to make the case to the communities they impact. It'll be less about what the communities can offer the data centers (tax incentives, etc.) and more about what the data centers can offer the communities (jobs, grid subsidies, local goodwill investments, etc.), which is as it should be.
