Is President Trump helping or hurting Republicans' chances in the 2026 midterm elections?
As the November 2026 midterms approach, CNN and other outlets published analyses this week debating whether President Trump's central role in the Republican campaign is helping or hurting the party's candidates.
Trump 47 is arguably the worst presidency since Andrew Johnson. He has destroyed America's alliances, destroyed an economic order that has seen tremendous growth at home and abroad for 75 years, driven gasoline and diesel prices to historic highs, assaulted the rule of law and institutional norms that have kept America safe. Even some of the dyed-in-the-wool MAGAts are deserting. Republican Congresspeople and Senators are widely recognized to have enabled this mess rather than exercise their Constitutional responsibilities. I voted mostly Republican until 2016. Since then the party has become something unrecognizable. I will never vote for any Republican currently holding office.
Agree 100%. Reagan and Romney Republicans seem a dying breed. The party is now far more about loyalty to Trump than conservative principles. They've lost their way.
His policies are very unpopular. War in Iran is raising prices. ICE continues to exhibit lawless cruelty. And he’s spending most of his time trying to build monuments to himself: ballroom, arch, Kennedy Center, etc.
